So it seems like the best thing to do is to buy the server with the most RAM money can get you, right? Well, not really. There are a few other things you’ll want to think about before you hand over your hard-earned cash.

Keep Your Operating System in Mind

In order for your site to run smoothly, your operating system (or OS) has to meet the minimum requirements set by your dedicated server.

If your OS doesn’t meet the minimum requirements, your site will be running at some extremely low processing speeds, and it may even crash. That’s a pretty good way to lose your potential clients.

Each system will have a set of minimum requirements as well as a recommended minimum. Of course, it’s better to have the recommended minimum, but you need to make sure you can at least meat the bare minimum first.

Know the Amount of Traffic You’ll Have

Having an approximate idea as to how much traffic you expect to have is another thing to factor in. As site holders hope to see their page grow, but some pages bring in more leads than others based off of who they are and what they sell.
